Jumanji: The Next Level is wholesome fun! (review)

Jumanji: The Next Level was a wholesome, fun, enjoyable movie. The opening moments of the film telegraph what’s going to happen right away, but that doesn’t stop you from having fun with the familiar characters that we met in Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle.

Minor Spoilers

There is a switcheroo with the in-game characters this time leading to one of the funniest roles I’ve ever seen Kevin Hart portray. Throughout the majority of the film, Kevin Hart’s character is Danny Glover’s real-world character. The way he uses his voice and mannerisms to act as Danny Glover makes his interactions with Dwayne Johnson (who is portraying Danny Devito’s real-world character) all the better.

Not to mention, we still see Kevin Hart and Dwayne Johnson interact as they did in the first film. The group ends up using a special water source that wasn’t available in the first film to make this happen. It’s a little bit of plot armor, but who cares it’s funny!

Jumanji - the next level

I appreciate the comedy in this film. Everyone played their role very well. Jack Black played his character so many different ways this time around, it was one of the highlights of the film. And, I had no idea that Rory McCann (the Hound, Game of Thrones) was in this film, so that was a bonus.

You will absolutely enjoy this film if you liked the first one, plus there was a post-credit scene that insinuates there will be another sequel in this franchise that brings Jumanji back into the real world like the Robin Williams film, which will most likely be great.
