Dr. Stone: Stone World The Beginning (S01, E05) | (recap)

Picking up from the cliff hanger of last week, Shishio prepares to knock Senku unconscious. He remains that he, Senku, Taiju, and Yuzuriha would have been friends if they met before the petrification. However, due to Senku’s obsession with bringing civilization back, Shishio believes he needs to kill him.

Stone World The Beginning

Senku had been regularly cracking his neck and drawing attention to its stiffness. This prompted Shishio to suggest blunt force trauma as the cause of death.

Taiju did not make it in time to stop the blow to Senku’s head, but he and Yuzuriha were able to cause a distraction allowing them to run away with Senku’s limp body.

Taiju would not accept Senku’s death and soon realized that Senku had to have a plan because his main goal was to keep everyone alive. After trying CPR, Yuzuriha and Taiju discovered that Senku still had a stone fragment in the back of his neck.

Using the revival serum, they hoped to heal the damage to Senku’s neck and spine as a result of the stone being removed. This calls back to Yuzuriha getting the leftover stone removed from her foot.

As Yuzuriha and Taiju wait patiently hoping that Senku will regain consciousness, we are shown a flashback of Senku’s preservation through his stone period.

We see Senku will himself awake, examine his stone shell, attempt to create fire, and create a hatchet all while being observed by monkeys. At the end of his preliminary actions, he decides that he is going to help reform civilization.

I’m assuming we’re going to see Senku awakening in the next episode.

Dr. Stone S1, E4 | Fire The Smoke Signal (recap)

Dr. Stone: King of the Stone World (S01 E02 ) | (recap)

Previously on Dr. Stone, Taiju and Senku woke from their petrified stone state to find that 3700 years had passed and nature had reclaimed the world. They stayed away for the entire 3700 years. Taiju obsessed over his crush, Yuzuriha. Senku stayed awake by counting the day, time, and hours as they passed by.

Senku was freed 6 months before Taiju. This allowed him to develop a serum to free other humans from their rock state.

Fast forward to episode two.

Spoilers ahead

Taiju is ready to use this serum on Yuzuriha. However, he hesitates because she will be naked once the rock shell falls off of her. Just as he’s arguing with Senku about this fact, a lion and his pride close in on them and force them to put everything on hold and run away.

As they run, Taiju determines that he needs to self-sacrifice to save Senku and Yuzuriha so that they can go on and rebuild civilization. However, Senku convinces him that that is a bad idea because he is the brawn in their duo and is needs to help rebuild life as they knew it.

Once Taiju rids the idea of self-sacrifice from his head, he decides to revive Shishio (a very strong former classmate of theirs). They run to his body and pour the serum on him. He wakes just in time to ask what the situation is.

“From now on, I’ll do the fighting” – Shishio

Shishio, dr. stone episode 2

Senku gives him a brief but accurate description of the problem and Shishio springs into action by punching the lion in the face and scaring his pride away.

I find it hard to believe that a person could spend 3700 years in a rock and be able to move and fight without having an adjustment period, but hey whatever.

Shishio turns out to be a reliable hunter and fighter. Taiju remains a building and scavenger, while Senku remains the brains behind the operation.

However, Senku does have a bad feeling about Shishio. He’s worried that their ideals of bringing back every human may not line up with Shishio’s ideals. He expresses this feeling to Taiju, but he’s oblivious. As a result of his uneasiness, Senku omits some information about the uses of calcium carbonate.

He was right to do so.

“A man who praises another man to his face is full of ulterior motives.” – Senku

Senku, episode 2 of Dr. Stone

While gathering seashell supplies to create calcium carbonate with Taiju, Shishio finds an adult that is petrified. He knocks the adults head off and states that he wants a world of pure-hearted youth.

He feels that bringing adults back with offer gratitude for a time, but they will soon take over again, and force their unfair rulings over the land. So he plans to eliminate them before they can corrupt society again.

Senku stands up to Shishio. He tells him that he plans to awaken everyone regardless.

And the conflict begins!

Dr. Stone: S01 E01 | Stone World (recap)

I’ve never heard of Dr. Stone before it’s release this month, but if every human turned to stone and centuries passed before my stone cast broke away and I was intact, I’d want a friend like Senku awake too.

There was not a lot of character development in this first episode, but we at least know that if you stayed conscious during your petrified stone state, eventually you would crack open fully aware of what happened.

Season 1, Episode 1 – Stone World

Yuzuriha Ogawa, Dr. Stone, crunchy roll

We meet two important characters right away, including Senku (a scientific genius well above his high school years) and Taiju (a standard high school boy with a mega crush on Yuzuriha – a girl he plans to express his feelings to outside of school).

Unfortunately, before Taiju can express his feelings a bright green light spreads through the land and petrifies every human alive. Doesn’t matter if they are inside a building or outside, they turn to stone.

“The date is October 5, 5738” – Senku

We follow Taiju through the seasons and years that pass after the green light flooded the earth. The animals take back territory and nature reclaims the structures that were built during the human-dominated era.

Taiju managed to stay conscious during the centuries that he was petrified due to his obsession with confessing his love for Yuzuriha. Eventually, his stone cracks away and he is miraculously okay.

He has drifted quite a ways away from the schoolyard where he planned to confess his love, but he manages to make his way back to the school’s previous location. Luckily he finds Yuzuriha still there in her petrified state. He also sees a messaged etched into the tree behind her.

“Follow the river idiot” – Senku

Senku Ishigami and Taiju Ōki, Dr Stone, Crunchyroll

Senku leaves a message scratched into the tree behind Yuzuriha’s head. The message prompts Taiju to meet up with Senku who has been awake for 6 months and managed to stay awake by counting the days to prevent himself from going unconscious.

First of all, can we just take a moment to appreciate the trust that Senku had in his friend Taiju?

He expected his friend to be alive. We see that he has those high expectations at the beginning of the episode as well. Senku offers Taiju a love potion to win Yuzuriha’s heart, but Taiju says no.

Turns out the potion was actually gasoline, but Senku had no doubts that Taiju was going to say no. We’ll probably see that same expectation through out the entire series until something drastic happens and trust is broken.

Maybe.

Turns out Senku, being the scientific genius we know him as, has figured out a way to de-petrify humans from their stone state. Senku and Taiju create the formula and test it out on birds until they get the combination correct!

Finally, the bird is freed of the stone!
