Ginro teases Kinro for not having a gold spear while rejoicing over his new silver spear. Senku appoints Ginro the group’s bodyguard while they go out to search for sulfur ingredients for the antibiotic.
“Buddies Back to Back”
The spear is also used for a sensor and turns black when the group needs to run away or they will die. Sulfer ingredients are dangerous.
Chrome, Kohaku, Senku, and Ginro make it to an area where they can gather materials for Rori’s medicine. They want to collect green water. But the hydrogen sulfide will kill them is Ginro doesn’t pay attention.
Ginro sees a mirage of a beautiful girl in the water and almost gets killed because he doesn’t notice the sulfuric acid turning the spear black. Kohaku thinks she can outrun the acid, but Senku assures her that her speed won’t be enough to outrun the poison.
The decide to great gas masks, but Senku makes Chrome stay behind in case the masks don’t work. Chrome is the only other person in the Kingdom of Science that knows how to create Rori’s cure and will pass down the knowledge. Chrome refuses because Senku is his friend. After some back and forth, Chrome and Senku agree to have each other back while gathering the materials.
Meanwhile, Kohaku is approached by her father to take the place of her sister as the town priestess. She refuses and vows to save Rori using the medicine Senku and Chrome are planning to create. She is assured that Chrome loves her sister and thus will save her life.
Senku and Chrome prepare to go back to the green lack again. Ginro is afraid so Senku takes his spear and they leave.
Kaseki, our resident craftsman, is still around. He gives some knowledge to Ginro about being able to work through his fear versus giving up and letting his fear consume him using willpower. Kaseki made another mask to give Ginro a change to help Chrome and Senku.
Back with Chrome and Senku, Chrome slips and falls off the cliff headed straight into the green lake of sulfuric acid. Ginro arrives just in time to save his life.
After a moment of heroism, Ginro freezes with fear after seeing his spear turn black. But Senku and Chrome help him calm down and gain control over his fear. And they obtain Sulfuric acid!
We have a flashback about Hinawa, Obi, and Maki before they were in the Fire Force. Hinawa’s flashback shows him freezing up when his roommate transformed into an inferno in the Armed Forces. Obi was a regular Fire Fighter, they weren’t taken seriously by members of the Fire Force.
“I refuse to sit back and do nothing while the world burns down around me.’ – Obi
After finding out that the Fire Force members had a point system to have fun while putting infernos to rest. One inferno waited patiently for the fire force to put in to rest. This is the first time Obi and Hinawa worked together. Obi vows after that moment to create his own sector of the Fire Force.
The Mightiest Hikeshi
Back in the present, the 8th want to investigate the Evangelist in the 7th. They do not want to cooperate, but Obi barges in and makes their presence known. The captain, Benimaru and Shinra have a battle of words because Benimaru isn’t interested in tracking down the Evangelist.
Shinra challenges him to a duel, but one of the townspeople turns into an inferno. While putting him to rest, Benimaru tears his village apart. An old lady explains to Shinra that the townspeople only want to be put to rest by Benimaru’s hands if they combust.
I think Benimaru will become a trustworthy ally once Shinra breaks his shell.
We resume in the Kingdom of Science with Asagiri Gen back with Shishio keeping Senku’s existence a secret and Kohaku training Ginro and Kinro for the Grand Bout.
Chrome and Senku plot to develop glass to make the antibiotic for Rori and then Senku ends up ripping off rips off Suika’s melon mask revealing an adorable face. That face quickly squinches up because shes near sited and the mask helps her see.
They start to gather materials to help them make glass. Senku ends up making glasses for Suika in the process.
Kohaku keeps training Kinro and Ginro. She calls out Kinro for having a bad depth of field. Ginro tells Kinro that his issue is because of his fuzzy sickness. Meaning he also needs glasses for astigmatism. However, he never asks for glasses.
Meanwhile, Senku, Chrome, and Suika formed glass and are struggling to make flasks with decent shape. They enlist the help of an old-timer name Kaseki who is a great craftsman in the village. When he refuses to help, Senku abducts him.
“I’m kind of a big deal” – Kaseki
Chrome and Senku attempt to create the vials and flasks in front of him. This makes Kaseki cringe and eventually can no longer resist helping after seeing how bad their craftsmanship was.
Kaseki crafts the needs flasks with precision and perfection. The Kingdom of Science is getting closer and closer to being able to create the antibiotic.
Ginro tells Kinro that putting gold and silver coatings on their spears may help him with his depth of field and allow an advantage in the Grand Bout. They go to Kohaku and Senku and ask him to create spears like the one he for them when they met. Senku agrees but sets them up for a mission to scavenge the materials to create a silver tip.
My Hero Academia season 2
At the start of the season, Deku struggles with trying to live up to All Might expectations after the fight with Tomura Shigaraki, Nomu and his villains left them outmatched. Luckily the All Might was able to hold off the group until the other pro-heroes showed up.
Class 1-A is informed by Eraser Head that they will be taking part in the Sports Festival. As the students prepare, All Might informs Young Midorya that his power is dwindling and he can only stay in hero form for 50 minutes.
He places the responsibility on Midoriya’s shoulders to take on the mantle of the next Symbol of Peace by showing out during the Sports Festival.
As the festival start gets closer, other students that Bakugou calls “Extra’s” are planning to use the festival as an opportunity to jump into the hero track. They have chips on their shoulders because Class 1-A had a real villain encounter and are in the spotlight as a result. Class A-1 starts training to standout at the tournament. Midoriya, Bokugou, and Todoroki want to stand at the top of the festival by the end.
After a series of obstacle courses to separate the cream from the crop, students are paired up to face one another in combat. Class 1-A rises to the top. Eraser Head theorizes that its because they’ve faced real danger before and know what it takes to move beyond fear and keep trying to succeed.
After experiencing Midoriya’s powers, Todoroki thinks he is All Mights love child. Todoroki states that his father, Endeavor. He’s the number two hero after All Might. Since Todoroki has discovered a connection between Midorya and All Might, he vows to surpass Midoriya the way his father could never surpass All Might.
There is still plenty of tournament left and Hitoshi Shinso (a student that wants to win the tournament and join the hero track). He has a brainwashing ability that renders Midoriya stunned after he replies to his insulting advances. Shinso plans to have Midoriya walk out of the ring while under his control.
But, the One For All users of the past jolt Midoriya’s body, breaking his fingers and breaking Shinso’s hold allowing him to win his battle and move to the next round against Todoroki.
Uraraka and Bokugou have a great battle despite the crowd feeling like Bakugou is a bully. Uraraka doesn’t win because her quirk ends up making her pass out.
By the time the final battles start, Midoriya and Todoroki go head to head in a battle that shows vulnerabilities with both of them. Deku still hasn’t figured out how to focus his power without drastically injuring himself. And because Todoroki does not want to use his fire quirk, he almost goes into hypothermia because he is excessively using his cold quirk. Todoroki ends up winning after engaging in his fire quirk causing Midoriya to end up out of bounds.
The fight with Midoriya gives Todoroki an epiphany. In his fight against Bokugou, Todoroki hesitates. But, with Midoriya cheering from the stands he engages but relents at the last moment allowing Bokugou to win the match and the tournament. He goes to visit his mom later in the season for closure.
Tenya Lida’s brother gets hurt by a villain causing him to leave the tournament early. The students pick their hero names. Originally, Bakugo nicknamed him Deku as an insult to mean that he can’t do anything. Midoriya thought long and hard about his name and decided to use Deku after his crush, Uraraka felt it was inspiring.
In the second half of the season, Class 1-A accepts internships to train and hone their skills. Midoriya goes to train with one of All Might’s previous teachers, Gran Torino. During his training, he begins to understand his One For All quirk.
There is a new villain causing havoc in the city. His name is Stain. Shigaraki from season one’s attack on U.A. is trying to recruit him into the League of Villains. However, Hero Killer: Stain is a purist and won’t join because he just wants to kill heroes that are in the business for the glory.
New Nomu’s start to attack the city and Gran Torino and Midoriya go to help. Midoriya figures out that the attacks are happening in the same city that Tenya’s brother was hurt. He goes to find him Tenya to stop him from giving in to his vengeance and attacking Stain. But Tenya is already in combat with Stain and gets paralyzed after stain tastes his blood. When Midoriya arrives he is able to stall Stain until Todoroki arrives (who is now using both of his quirks). Together, Midoriya, Todoroki, and Lida take on Stain and capture him. The pro-heroes arrive after the fact.
A Nomu grabs Midoriya and tries to escape, but Stain kills it and obtains Miydoria. Every hero nearby stood by without a gameplan. Stain noticed Endeavor and became filled with rage calling him a fake hero and proclaimed that All Might could only kill him. Stain stood tall until a broken rib pierced his lung and killed him.
All Might tells Midoriya about All For One and the quirk’s ability to take and transfer quirks at will. All For One the hero reigned over the world and created the League of Villains and began transferring his powers to people and when they could not handle it, they became mindless Nomu. Other quirks evolved when merged with All For One.
That is how One For All was created. One For All gave his younger (thought to be quirkless) brother an ability to bend him to his will. However, the younger brother had a passive quirk that allowed him to transfer powers. The U.A studies do not cover this part in history because of how dark a time it was.
Eventually, All Might inherited All For One and defeated One For All. But now, it is Midoriya’s turn to take down All For One as he grows stronger as the leader of the League of Villains. Midoriya accepts this responsibility. All Might neglects to tell Midoriya that he is dying.
Class 1-A start final exams of the school year. They face off against their teacher-heroes. A lot of the students use Midoriya as inspiration to keep pushing and pass their exams.
When Midoriya and Bakugou get paired together for the final exam, things start very rough. They manage to come up with a game plan to try and pass the exam. But, All Might notes that the envy, competition, and jealousy between one another will keep them from working effectively. Bakugou takes point on fighting All Might when Midoriya gets a back injury. Bakugou gets put down by All Might. Midoriya punches All Might with a smash, saves Bakugou and sprints to the gate to pass the exam.
Meanwhile, the villains continue to prepare for world domination with the League of Villains.
Senku and the rest of the Kingdom of Science sit in their hut discussing whether or not they can trust Asagiri Gen because of his affiliation with Shishio (firmly referred to as Tsukasai at this point). We see a flashback from Asagiri’s perspective of how Shishio woke him up with an army of statues behind him. He revealed his plan to have a world without the original powers (meaning older people that dictated society before the petrification).
A Flimsy Alliance
Senku convinces his friends that Asagiri is the key to winning the war, all he has to do is tell Shishio that Senku is definitely dead. Asagiri quietly contemplates to himself about his decision when he is attacked by two brutes.
He doesn’t seem to know who they are, but their objective is clear. They aim to kill him. One of the men stabbed a spear into his chest and fleed the scene before Senku and the rest of the team can come to his aide.
Luckily, Asagiri is smart. He blocked the spear penetration. He was not dead, but he was critically injured. Senku, Chrome, and Kohaku began to tend to his wounds while Suika went to investigate.
Suika found out that Magma is the one who tried to kill Asagiri because he wanted to get rid of the sorcery. During this flashback, we find out that Kohaku beat Magma in a tournament called the Grand Bout to be the next to ruler the village and fiance to her sister. She only attacked him after she overheard him say he would drown her sister after they got married.
This action pissed her dad off and due to her history of shenanigans, he disowned her. The Grand Bout was rescheduled to decide a new winner for the next month.
The plan is to make a member of the Kingdom of Science join the bout and win. As a result, they would take Rori’s hand in marriage and allow her the medicine to take the medicine.
Kohaku approaches Kinro and Ginro to train them. She tells Chrome that she knows he wants the opportunity, but she thinks Kinro and Ginro have the best chance to physically defeat Magma. Chrome understands and is still determined to create a cure for her.
Asagiri wakes up and makes a flees the village to run back to Shishio. Chrome and the rest of the group are worried that he will tell Shishio that Senku is alive. However, Senku isn’t worried because they made a deal.
Bottle of Cola
Senku will make Asagiri a refreshing bottle of Cola in exchange for his allegiance.
Asagiri arrives at Shishio’s lair surrounded by goons. Shishio is sitting on a stone throne looking on. Asagiri tells him about the primitive village that attacked him and says that Senku was gone without a trace. Asagiri holds up his promise to tell Shishio that Senku is dead in exchange for Cola.
We pick back up from the previous episode of Fire Force, with Shinra jumping down from the rough on to Rekka’s face effectively stopping him from beating up Tamaki.
During their fight, Rekka’s inferno creating bug starts to try and jolt toward Shinra from inside its container. Rekka believes this is because the bug is compatible with Shinra and plans to capture him to use him for whatever the Evangelists’ grand plan is.
They engage in a fight and Shinra holds his own, but it quickly becomes apparent that Rekka is more experienced and therefore able to use his flames more effectively.
The Spreading Malice
Tamaki is caught up in the crossfire and pleads for Shinra to defeat Rekka. Rekka feels that he can beat Rekka in terms of mobility and takes to the air to fight. Rekka decides to use his arms. Shinra defeats Rekka with a huge burst fire kick from the ceiling, leaving him laying on the ground.
His goal is to create strong pyrokinetic from the children he takes and produce countless infernos to return the world to flames because its the will of the Evangelist. The main objective of his group is to turn the world into a second sun, a star.
During Rekka’s crazy rant, he says that he planned to kidnap the children so they can receive the Evangelists’ teachings. Shinra realizes his brother could have been taken from the scene of his house fire when they were young.
Karim and Foein show up and Karim freezes Rekka mid-attack. They are trying to figure out their next steps when someone shoots Rekka from afar and reports that he has been eliminated. The sniper begins to fire again and ends up shooting off Foein’s arm.
The group goes on defense and the sniper’s retreat.
Who is the Evangelist?
Shinra deduces that there is a group that’s turning civilians into infernos and setting fires to hide their crimes. Among them are kidnapped children and one of those children could be his brother. Now, Shinra plans to go after the Evangelist.
Tamaki is prepared to accept her punishment for her role in Rekka’s plot. Special Unit 1 joins Special Unit 8’s investigation to find the Evangelist.
As a result of Tamaki’s role, she was suspended and Obi accepted her into the 8th for the time being. Arthur went missing during the apprehension of Rekka and hasn’t returned to the 8th’s base. He is shown walking in a windy desert at the end of the episode.
Is he going off on his own or could he be working for the Evangelist?
I am excited about the upcoming season 4 of My Hero Academia starting on October 12th of this year! I’ve been waiting for the next part of young Midorya’s adventure with his fellow U.A. High School classmates and his favorite hero, All Might.
In preparation for the upcoming season, I am recapping season one, two, and three. They’ll be separate posts and will come up a few weeks apart from each other leading up to October 12th!
Of course, you can go back and watch the seasons for yourself if this series piques your interest. But for now, here is your My Hero Academia recap for season 1.
My Hero Academia – Season 1
A young boy named Midoriya grows up in a world where having powers is normal. These powers are known as quirks. Unfortunately, Midoriya does not develop a quirk like others his age for unknown reasons. As devastating as this is, he does not give up hope and continues his plans to get accepted to U.A High (the most prestigious school to train and become a hero).
This angers an already hot-headed, Bakugo, a childhood friend of his (if you can call him that at this stage). Midoriya’s relationship with his Bakugo was always a strange one. Midorya looked up to him and was ecstatic when he developed his explosion quirk.
One thing that Midoriya had that Bakugo didn’t was the ability to examine his opponent and determine ways to overcome them. A pretty awesome trait, if you ask me.
Bakugo was always a bit of a jerk to Midoriya, but his treatment gets worse when he finds out that Midoriya is invited to U.A Highs tryout despite being quirkless. As a result, their heated rivalry develops.
On a happier note, Midorya runs into his favorite superhero, All Might one day in the city. the two have a conversation and Midorya looks for his support in pursuing his dream to be a superhero without a quirk.
At the time of this conversation, All Might was struggling with a long term injury that causes him to transform into a gaunt state as a result of using too much power.
All Might was in a fight before speaking with Midoriya and his power was running low. This caused him to power down in front of Midoriya and reveal his secret.
During their conversation, All Might told Midoriya that he would not be able to be the type of hero he aspired to be without a quirk. He was later proven wrong when Bakugo was captured by the villain All Might fought earlier that day.
In his gaunt state, All Might looked on has heroes failed to rescue Bakugo due to the condition of the area. However, Midoriya sprang into action! He ran into the flames and goop that surrounded his friend in an effort to save him. He knew it was hopeless, but he had to do something.
This is inspired All Might to power up and help save the day!
From there, All Might catches up with Midoriya and gives him a strand of his hair to eat to pass the ‘One For All’ quirk to him. He also offers to train him for his U.A High tryout and help him master his powers for the physical exam.
Midoriya gets accepted after showing his bravery and concern for others on the battlefield during the physical exam despite being in danger of failing. Sure he almost permanently injured himself, but he showed he had heart! He struggles to gain control of his powers for the entirety of season 1 and gains control eventually in the seasons to come.
There’s a point in the season that Midoriya and Bakugo go head to head during a group training exercise at U.A High. While Bakugo focused on destroying Midoriya, Midoriya is strategizing on how to complete the exercise. Midoriya’s team wins and though Bakugo gets pissed off, even more, he realizes that he’ll need to work hard to be the best.
Among other exciting happenings at U.A. High, All Might joined the teaching staff and that attracted villains. The villain’s leader is named Tomura. He brings his multi-quirk monster, Nomu, to attack U.A High students to draw out All Might for a fight.
All might comes to the rescue even though he is weak and at risk of exposing his gaunt form. At this point, Deku and a few higher up members at the school know about this form and what caused it. All Might manages to defeat Nomu.
GO BEYOND PLUS ULTRA!!!
However, All Might is declining rapidly to the point where his skin is starting to sizzle. All Might want to keep the Symbol of Peace intact and holds on just long enough for Deku and a handful of other class members arrive. They distract the villains and give enough time to the other teachers/heroes (Eraser Head, Present Mic, Cementoss, midnight, Vlad King and a few others) to arrive and push back the villains.
Sure they save the day, but the breach of U.A high sparks the beginning of panic surrounding the school, the heroes and their ability to keep the city and its citizens safe.
The episode starts with a mysterious figure vowing to the Evangelist (whoever that is) that he’ll find the Pilot Light. And then we get the epic opening theme.
Hibana, Obi, and Hinawa discuss the research that they have on the infernos. Last episode, The Investigation of the 1st Commences, Hibana told Obi that she believes someone is creating the infernos. Her research concluded that, in all of her subjects, an insect was being introduced into the host’s body causing them to combust.
We catch up with Shinra who is still undercover with Arthur and a hand full of other Fire Soldiers investigating Special Unit 1. Hinawa shows up outside his bedroom window to get Shinra’s updated report because he has not been checking in with Obi (Special Unit 8’s captain). But he is also there with Hibana to figure out if the person creating infernos is in Special Unit 1.
After eating breakfast, an inferno alarm goes off for Special Unit 1. Everyone, including Arthur and Shinra, go to the scene. However, they are told by Karim to sit tight so they don’t confuse the squad. It is a 5 person combustion and they don’t know formations so they stand guard outside the scene.
They catch a glimpse of a man stumbling out of an ally and go to help him when they see an arm garbed in Special Unit 1 lieutenant clothes stretch out and stick a big in his back. This causes him to combust immediately.
Shinra and Arthur chase after the culprit but run into Rekka and Karim. They back down so that they don’t blow their cover.
Later, Arthur and Shinra follow a lead to Karim’s room where they find one of the empty insect bottles. Karim catches them and explains that he wanted to see if they were investigating the infernos as well. They may be on the same team. Karim, Shinra, and Arthur go to confront Rekka.
Cut to Tamaki.
She is luring little kids to Rekka so that he can teach them how to fight becoming an inferno through prayer. However, unbeknownst to her, Rekka is just turning them into infernos.
He was the mysterious person vowing to find the Pilot Light for the Evangelist. He planned to use Tamaki and frame the activities on her.
Tamaki tries to stop him but ends up getting stomped. Rekka turns a woman into an inferno and kills her immediately and then turns another little boy named Taku into one, but he doesn’t combust.
Rekka exclaims that he’s found the Pilot Light, but will continue to experiment on the remaining children. Tamaki is helpless and calls out. Luckily, Shinra was surveying the area from the sky and was able to arrive on the scene, stomping his foot in Rekka’s face, and stall his treacherous deeds by the end of the episode.
Senku and friends begin handing out ramen in the hopes that the villagers will join the Kingdom of Science and help them create the antibiotic and make other advances in society using science. They need manpower to do this per the last episode, Stone Road.
An outsider with a cool haircut that rivals Senku’s (I haven’t decided who’s hair is better) arrives and starts eating a bowl of ramen. Kohaku calls him an enemy holds him at knifepoint along with Ginro and Kinro.
Turns out this man was a famous magician pre-petrification and considers himself a mentalist. Kohaku thinks he’s full of crap and he seems shifty. However, Senku opts not to debate whether he is good or bad but makes him work for his meal.
Let There Be the Light of Science
This new character is named Asagiri Gen. He and others from the village join the group for manual labor. Doing so allows the group to acquire iron. Senku asks Asagiri how Taiju and Yuzuriha are doing. Asagiri admits that he is a spy for Shishio and that his job is to confirm Senku’s death.
Asagiri says that regardless of which side wins (Science or Shishio) he’s going to go with what makes him the happiest. That turns out to be girls and food, but mostly girls. Kohaku is disgusted and threatens to kill him or imprison him.
Senku holds her off by telling her that Asagiri needs to report back to Shishio to avoid him coming to investigate for himself. He then promises that once Asagiri sees the advances they make he’ll want to join the Kingdom of Science.
The Kingdom of Science is working on creating a generator. Senku states that they’ll need lightening and as luck would have it a thunderstorm lights up the sky. Senku looks shaken to the core because he was ill-prepared for the storm.
The team springs into action to create lightning rods to harness the energy of the lightning and create a magnet. Some of the primitive villagers mistake this frantic preparation for the destruction of the bridge and anger of the heavens due to their sorcery. Asagiri uses a flower trick to confuse the primitive group so that the Kingdom of Science can continue with its mission to harness the lightning.
Chrome, Senku, Kohoku, Ginro, Kinro, and Asagiri all stand on a hill with iron rods waiting to get struck by lightning. Kohaku uses Kinro’s spear with the golden tip to mount the iron rod in the air. As a result, a magnet is created to aide the group in the creation of the generator.
They create the generator and with some Asagiri’s magical persuasion, Kinro and Ginro finally join the Kingdom of Science as the two operators of the generator with promises of getting new golden spears.
Senku also created a light bulb that illuminates the night, showed the group the result of their hard work, won over Asagiri, and took Senku one step closer to realizing his dream of bringing the world back to its former glory.
October 12, 2019 the season begins.
