Teen Titans Go! vs. Teen Titans (review)

This movie was enjoyable for multiple reasons. Most specifically because it poked so much fun at the generation of kids that got pissed when Teen Titans went off-air in 2006 and eventually were replaced by Teen Titans Go! in 2013.

But I have to admit I felt silly when I realized the same actors are voice acting for both versions of the characters in both Teen Titans and Teen Titans Go! That made me laugh.

Story:

The movie starts with Raven’s forehead crystal cracking making it hard for her to control her inner demon. Trigon, her father, asks her to let him take the powers so that he can take over the universe and she can be human. Raven says no because he’s evil and that prompts Trigon to put his real plan into action.

We later find out that he is working with the Teen Titans (2003) Trigon after he abducts the Teen Titans Go! under an assumed identity and makes them fight against themselves from a different world. Both Ravens get kidnapped leaving the Teen Titans and Teen Titans Go! no choice but to work together to get them back.

Cool plot.

Impression:

The best moment in the film came when they did a 90’s music break with the Beast Boy’s dressed as Kriss Kross, the Cyborg’s as Run DMC/ Kid and Play cross over, the Robin’s as Vanilla ice, and the Starfire’s as Salt and Peppa.

Eventually, Robin (2003) comes up with a plan to find the ravens while everyone else gets better acclimated to one another. Robin (2013) is jealous. However, the Robin’s can not get a long.

They end up stealing a thing from Santa Claus and just when I thought it was getting dull, the Young Justice Titans made a cameo due to the Titans enter the wrong dimension while running from Santa.

We end up being treated to a bunch of iterations of the Titans and it is a nice addition.

Robin (2003) seemed more dramatic than I remember from when I was younger, but it made his interaction with Robin (2013) funnier especially when the other Teen Titan Go! members fawned over him.

Ultimately, the Robins cooperation helps them beat the Trigon’s and save Raven. But there is this moment in the movie that reminded me of Avengers: Endgame. I won’t spoil it, but it definitely will make you go, hmmm.

Then at the end of the movie, I realized the entire movie low key made fun of big cross over films like the Avengers. They literally went through the plot of the first Avengers movie during the attack on New York. Only Darkseid was the invader.

Honestly, this is a fun watch. Don’t take it too seriously. Don’t beat yourself up for being offended that the Teen Titans went off-air. Just laugh at yourself and laugh at the movie.
